Wigner function for discrete phase space: exorcising ghost images
We construct, using simple geometrical arguments, a Wigner function defined on a discrete phase space of arbitrary integer Hilbert-space dimension that is free of redundancies. “Ghost images” plaguing other Wigner functions for discrete phase spaces are thus revealed as artifacts. It allows to devise a corresponding phase-space propagator in an unambiguous manner. We apply our definitions to ei...
متن کاملExorcising the exocyst complex.
The exocyst complex is an evolutionarily conserved multisubunit protein complex implicated in tethering secretory vesicles to the plasma membrane. Originally identified two decades ago in budding yeast, investigations using several different eukaryotic systems have since made great progress toward determination of the overall structure and organization of the eight exocyst subunits. Studies poi...
متن کاملExorcising W < −1
We show that the combined dimming of Type Ia supernovae induced by both a cosmological constant and the conversion of photons into axions in extra-galactic magnetic fields can impersonate dark energy with an equation of state w < −1. An observer unaware of the presence of photon-axion conversion would interpret the additional dimming as cosmic acceleration faster than that induced by a cosmolog...
متن کاملA Ghost in the Machine? Politics in Global Health Policy
Members of the 67th World Health Assembly in 2014 were presented with a framework document to guide World Health Organization (WHO) engagement with non-state actors, a key part of WHO reform kick-started in 2011. According to this document, non-state actors include four distinct constituencies: i) nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), ii) private sector entities; iii) philanthropic foundations;...
متن کاملA Note on Ostrogradsky and Horowitz’s Method
Ostrogradsky and Horowitz’s method performs the additive decomposition of rational functions by solving linear systems. We show that there are extraneous factors when the systems in their method are solved by Cramer’s rule. The results help us to obtain better bounds on the degrees of the coefficients in the additive decomposition.
